Water based inks

For traditional printing on porous supports (e.g. paper, cardboard) and for printing on special supports in applications where water-based inks are required due to technical or environmental needs.

Solvent and Resin Inks

Writing on non-porous surfaces (such as polymers) requires inks with organic solvents other than water.

Formulation of such inks is particularly critical since interactions with the organic materials of the printhead must also be taken into account.

Food grade inks

For use in labelling the packaging in contact with the food.

It is essential for the materials used to conform with current legislation.

CHARACTERIZATION OF INKS, PRINTHEADS AND PRINTING SUBSTRATES

The most complex task in formulating inks is to find the right match between inks and printheads, where match means the chemical, physical and fluidic compatibility of the parts.

In addition, the best driving conditions (e.g. frequency, energy….) have to be identified for translation into algorithms for the host printer firmware.

In other words, it is necessary to provide the host printer with all the info needed to properly drive the printheads.

It is equally important for the ink to match the printing substrate, in terms of drying time, optical density and permanence of the image.

PRINTING SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

Contacts with potential customers have highlighted the need to have both printing engines that the clients can adapt for their machines, and complete, fully customized printers.

Design/production of a printing system

The availability of a system with printhead/carriage/printer is strategic for many suppliers of printing machines used in the most diverse applications, i.e. applications for which they would personalize the system built around the engine.

Design/production of industrial printers

This entails providing complete customized printing systems, very often large format.

The common feature of the two approaches is the supply by ThallosJet of the ink and printhead tailored to the application.

INK JET BASED SYSTEMS FOR LIFE SCIENCE

The Life Science sector is one of the most challenging and, at the same time, most promising fields in which our ink jet technology finds applications.

Formulating “bioinks”

We successfully optimize the formulation of inks containing biomolecules in order to identify the right conditions for jettability (viscosity and surface tension) and attain high biological quality printing (concentration of biomolecules, stability and wettability).

Studying substrates

We can test and prepare various types of substrates able to host biomolecules for creating microarrays.

Various materials can be used – glass, paper or polymers – in order to optimize the performance / cost ratio.

Adapting printing systems to deposit biomolecules

We can either modify a commercial printing system (ink jet printer or plotter) or customize a robotized system in order to deposit biomolecules.
